I have a client that cannot get to web pages without
typing the http:// first. If he types www.yahoo.com, for
instance, the browser just spins. But if he adds http://
to the front of it, it works fine.

Any suggestions?

Mark

Hi,

You may need to enable autocomplete.

More information is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/ie6/inline.aspx

If this works for you, please post back! :-)

Altrus

Try the following and see if it helps:

You can also check these keys and edit them, if necessary, as follows:

CAUTION: BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\
DefaultPrefix default="http://"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\
Prefixes
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

or.............................

Restrore Search:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG
This will restore your default Search functionality. You will, however,
have to restore any custom setups you may have had before.

Download the fix - Reset Search:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg

This will restore your default Search functionality. However, if you had
any custom adjustments you have made will have to re-select them.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Hi Jan - FYI, that patch is completely included in RestoreSearch2. Curious
that it apparently worked (see later in thread) when the RestoreSearch2 fix
apparently didn't. Maybe the second application? or ? Thoughts?

Perhaps it could have been a second application that caused it to resolve
the problem. However, I've not heard of it having to take 2 applications to
work properly before. Have you? :-)

Nope. RS2 is usally a complete fix for that type of thing. ?

Hmmm...my thoughts as well....never heard of it not working if the problem
was indeed related. Strange that it would not work with the first
application.

However, and perhaps I am wrong here, although Altrus thanked Oops! for the
link, they did not indicate that it had actually resolved their problem.
Mark, the original OP, stated that it did not. In fact, we don't know that,
although Altrus thanked Oops! for the link as a reference, as did I, that
they actually used it. According to the original OP it did not resolve their
problem, but, they have not responded further. Perhaps Altus never used the
process, as they did not at any point indicate they had a problem, or what
it was, only to ask the OP to post back if the information they provided
worked. Am I seeing this correctly, or am I missing something somewhere here
I'm overlooking? :-)
