forced line break in legend entry

HI,

when I use special caracters (as french letters à or é or
even a simple dash "-") in a MSGRAPH chart cell that is
part of the presentation, it will create a line break in
the ppwt presentation where the text should appear (the
legend entry), so that we only see the first characters
since the remaining ones are down one line that I cannot
see in the presentation.
If I don't use any one of those characters in a cell, the
line break will not occur and the ppw presentation shows
the right Legend entry (without the line break)

I have OFFICE2000 SP3.

THANKS

How are you inserting the special characters?

What I call special characters are a dot (.) a dash (-)
and others and also french é,à,ê, etc...

I insert them in a cell of MSGRAPH when editing the legend
entry for the graphic.

MSGRAPH opens in edition mode to let me add or change
values (text for that matter) in the cells. I suppose they
come from excel or whatever.

If the text I insert in the MSGRAPH editor does not
contain any "special" char it will show alright whatever
the lenght. If on the contrary there is one of those chars
in the MSGRAPH cell, then when returning to the graphic,
the legend entry shows with a line break just after this
char

here is the example :

Banque will show Banque

but

Banque-note will show

Banque
note

just like so it does not really show on the graphic since
the legend entry box is vertically smaller than 2 lines of
text.

Hope this is clear.

I don't have that particular version, but in PPT2000 SR1/English this
doesn't happen (I tried with dash and period characters).

Have you tried searching google with terms like MSGraph, "-" and line break?

yes I did.

There is nothing on google there is nothing on ms kb.
for ppwp or msgraph....

TRSB,

Instead of entering your text and special characters on the "Datasheet". Try
entering them on the actual graph, by clicking the actual text box on the
graph

I understand special characters. But How are you inserting them? Are you using the Alt+key method or some other method?

inserting them? Are you using the Alt+key method or some
other method?

No a "-" is special only because it creates this problem,
as for the other characters (é,à, ê, etc..) we have the
french canadian keyboard layout to key them in. As we type
the key "?/" it gives us a é

You might want to try using the Alt+Numkey method. Using Alt+0150 for '-', or open up Character map from your Program files, Accessories, system tools, and drag n drop the character you need.

That don't change anything. It's not the way I put the
damn char it's the way it SHOWS....either cut&paste,
alt0150, or the simple key : same thing : create a line
feed whereas this char should appear.

Too bad it's not clear

Have you tried changing your keyboard from French-Canadian, to something else, to see if that might be the cause of the problem? What about entering these characters in other than MSGraph, same results?
