I'm using XP home now instead 98. I cannot install the
software, drivers, for the joystick now. Is there an
update for the joystick? I looked but couldn't find what
I need. Any suggestions.

If you have a game port controller, simply go into Control Panel/Game
Controllers, select to Add a controller, then select Microsoft SideWinder
(auto detect). The system will automatically find it and install
appropriate drivers. You will not be able to do "profiles" to change the
button assignments, but instead will need to rely on in-game options to do
that.

If you have a USB controller and the version 4.x software, disregard the
warning message about not being compatible with Windows 2000 (XP is not
2000), and install the software, then set up the controller in Control
Panel/Game Controllers.

The 4.0 software works fine on Windows 2000 too. The error message was only
because Windows 2000 wasn't done when the 4.0 software shipped and we
weren't aabsolutly sure it would still be stable after Windows 2000
released. Since then it has been tested extensivly and should work fine.
Certain USB controller chips may give you problems, but those problems
aren't only for the 4.0 devices.

Never knew that, Joshua. Just jumped to Windows XP, and knew the
work-around (ignore!) for the situation. Thanks.

No problem. I try to keep on top of this as much as possible. It makes it
easier when people like you and Jimmy help when you can too.
Thanks.
