Hello fellow techies..
Is it possible to force a DFS client machine to directly
connect to a DFS root that is NOT in it's site.

I know the /INSITE switch works when you want to connect
to servers in your site ONLY. But I need the opposite.

Many Thanks in advance,
-Ian

Hi Ian,
By default DFS behaves in a site-aware fashion.
i.e. it arranges the local targets above other site targets.
This is irrespective of your INSITE setting.
You requirement is anti-site-aware. A workaround will
be to make your local targets offline so that they will not
be in the referral list.

I am just curious to know if there is any particular reason for this
requirement?
Please let us know

thanks

Murali,
We're using DFS for managing application (MSI) rollouts.
When an application that might be broken, tries to self
heal.. it does't find the DFS share.. because now it
points to the local DFS root. (Does that make sense)..

Please help..

Thanks again.
-Ian

Can you please let us know what you mean by
"it doesnt find the DFS share" Is it because you made
some modifications to the DFS namespace which did not
get reflected in the other root replicas?
Or are you using FRS to replicate your application rollouts
and they are not getting replicated to the replicas?
