Hi there
i have a problem with my SCSI adapter under Windows XP
The adapter is a DAWICONTROL 2975U SCSI Controller, but WindowsXP always installs a driver for a different controller. The problem is that my SCSI CD-Recoder is not working with the default driver.
I have the XP driver for the DAWICONTROL adapter, but are not able to uninstall the default one. I tried it in SAFE MODE and at every new start (even in SAFE MODE) XP automatically detects and installs the default SCSI driver. I am really fed up, any suggestions??

Thanx Christoph

Find the .inf file for the device in the INF folder
located in the windows folder. Delete the .inf and
windows will no longer install it automatically.

You could force the drivers you have by going to device
manager, select the scsi device, right click and select
properties. Click on the Drivers tab and click update
driver. When it gives you the choice to find drivers
automatically, select "don't search", then on the next
screen just select next, then click have disk. Browse to
the drivers you want to install. You might get a message
that the current drivers are newer than the ones you are
trying to install, just click yes, and all should be well.

Why uninstall the default one? Just go to device mgr and update the
driver already there. The only way to keep windows from finding the scsi
card is to stop the plunplay service, but I recommend only doing that in
safe mode. You can also try modifing the boot.ini file by adding the
/pcilock switch.

Thanx for all suggestions, but it still does not work.
Firstly, the device manager doesn't let me update the device with the right driver, it just complains that it can't find a better drvier at the location I give it (XP driver from manufacture of SCSI card). Secondly it doesn't seem to use any .inf file as suggested, but a .sys file. I am currently trying to delete this file and maybe it will work.
Any more suggestions???

Thanx for the help so far

I would say then go into safe mode and search for ASPI*.sys driver
files. When you find them, delete them. ASPI files are used for SCSI
devices and are the ones windows pnp will find when you install a scsi
card. When you boot back into windows, it will find the card but not the
drivers, prompting the add new hardware wizard to run. You can then
install the drivers you want.

If it is complaining that it can't find a better drvier at
the location you specified, then you are still telling it
to search. DON'T SEARCH. You have the option to locate
the drivers yourself. Try it it will work.

Device manager -> Right click device -> Update driver ->
( )Install the software automatically (Recommended)
(*)Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Next
(*)Don't search. I will choose the drivers to install.
Next
If at this point it asks you for the type of device, just
click next.
When the "Select the device driver you want to install for
this hardware" page comes up, click the "Have Disk" button
and browse to the drivers you want to use. You will have
to locate the .inf on the CD bcause this method will not
search the CD for you.

Hope this helps
