For Office Outlook 2003, I can't receive my e-mail messages. It has been
working fine with my cox account and it suddenly will not work, I can access
my cox e-mail account through IE but not through office. I checked the pop
and smtp settings and they all seem fine.

Are you running Norton as I am? I have cox comm. too and thought it was cox
screwing me around again. Apparently I downloaded a Noton update a couple of
days ago which played havoc with outlook 2003, could not get response to
incoming server error message. Had to reset firewall rules for internet
enabled programs. You can get all the details on symantec web site.

I went to Symntec website and tried resetting the firewalls and it also told
me my liveupdate was an old version so I tried to update that which failed
midway through the update. Now, I still can't receive the e-mails from
outlook and it takes probably 8 minutes for my computer to shut down. I will
go back to Symantec website and try again.

Be careful. I had to system restore my computer back a couple days to get it
to operate properly. Then I carefully went and tried resetting the firewalls
again (you can find it by going to symantec.com and under search choose the
"support" tab and in the empty space before the go button, type cannot send
or receive email on Outlook after installing Norton). Each time when it runs
the program scan it only goes to 37% complete and then freezes though the
window behind says that the automated fix worked properly and gives you steps
to clear the log. So I went ahead and tried clearing the log and ended up
freezing the computer and having to shut down and do system restore again.
Please let me know if you have any better luck .

I'm sorry I was a little vague on this. when I went to the site I typed in
the question"Cannot recieve email with outlook 2003"
I also had a problem when i tried to reset the firewall rules. I was able to
remove all the internet-enabaled programs but when I did a scan I would get a
hung app and like you take about 5 minutes to shut down. Finally I just said
the hell with it and removed all the programs from the list and restarted.
Norton asks to create rules and I just allow or block as the come up. Went to
outlook , rule was automatically created and everything worked fine.
again sorry about any confusion.

I went to the Firewall and tried unsuccessfully again to program scan,
restored the computer to an earlier date, tried manually removing the
programs and it froze up again. Finally I system restored to 1/1/06 and
outlook is now working again though the outlook setup gave me some errors
while it was retrieving the messages again. It now seems to be working fine.

Though it didn't work for me, I really appreciate your help and am afraid I
will probably be back to square one when Norton updates again but I will send
them off an e-mail to see if they have a fix..
