Could you please help with my problem,
one thing I did't mention is that I can open my
home page from windows explorer, but that is all.
Regards
azy

Sorry but I cannot see or remember your previous post.

Explain again your problem and post.
I do not mind trying to solve your problem but I'm not the only one
qualified to help.
So please post to the general audience. You may be an answered sooner as I
do not spend much time here.

Good luck.

sorry,
could any one help please.

A couple of days ago when opening a presumably legit
site, ie; 'a pleasureland fun fair park in England' just to check prices,
the window flickered a little, then I received the error,
'Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem' etc;
usually when this happens I just click ,send error report or do not send,
lose the window I was on and then carry on,
(I can connect to the net for example, OE, NAV updates etc;)
but this time no matter what I try to open, (web page or link),
I get the same error message!
I have tried to repair via the add/remove box, but get the message
cannot repair, (details are: 5.0.0.3715 of file SCRRUN.DLL exists,
but the version needs to be greater than 5.1.0.5010??
run setup again, this is were bigger problems start.
I run setup from programs>Internet Explorer, and I get the
message, 'cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 6.
Either the uninstall information is missing or the information has been
corrupt'.
I have tried to re-install from the Windows Update Files folder
in the windows directory, a custom re-install of just the browser,
in the add/remove box, but nothing works.
I have W98SE, and have checked everything with Add-Aware,
Spy-bot, Pest-Patrol has seen nothing and a full system scan with NAV 2004?
(All up to date)
I can open my home page from windows explorer, but that is all.

Sorry for being so long winded, but I wanted to give as much info as
possible.
If you could help I would be very grateful.
Kind regards
azy

Make sure you have the latest version of AdAware and Spybot.

Get also CWShredder.exe for all CoolWebSite infection.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

If you use a HOSTS file, beware of this new issue.
Ad-Aware has decided to include a new detection when scanning the HOSTS
file. This now creates a "Bad hosts file entry" in the log file generated at
the end of a scan. The best thing to do is to place a check in each entry,
right-click and select: "Add selection to ignorelist". Otherwise if you let
AWW "fix" these items it will trash the HOSTS file! Even if you have it
"locked" by [example] SpywareBlaster or Winpatrol. It does not return the
attributes and renames the HOSTS file incorrectly to hosts.

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

IMPORTANT:
Before trying to remove spyware, download a copy of LSPFIX from

removed, this program will enable you to regain your connection.

Check this also.
It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

If all fails, then get help from this forum.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] Latest version is 1.98.

Unzip the Download file in a NEW FOLDER that you can create before you start
the download.
DO NOT install in your Desktop folder.
DO NOT use any of the TEMP folders that are presently in your computer.
Double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/

Sign in, then copy/paste your HijackThis .log file in your message.

Hi, and thanks,

I have done as you said, I have latest versions of all you mentioned,
plus I downloaded CWshredder.exe, plus Highjack, I ran them all
and found nothing? Another development now is if I open Windows Explorer
and click on the explorer icon at the bottom of the left pane, I can get my
home page,
plus if I type a burl in the address bar it opens that site?
I could even open Windows Update site! I have all updates available.
The big problem is, I cannot open links off the sites I open, I still get
the error report, also if I try to open the links from
messages within outlook Express the error message crops up,
but when I close it the program freezes, I have to do a ctrl-alt-del to
close it down,
and when it closes it also closes a couple of my task bar icons near the
clock?
As I said before the explorer icons on the desk top,
or the quick launch bar do not work at all.
I hope I have explained everything ok.
regards
azy
