make sure you run Windows Updates and install the lastest Windows 3.1
installer. That should fix your problem. It did for me.

Mason, no i just used the standard "windows update" program from within XP
and went to site. I didn't have any problems updating. I had been working
fine with the beta 1 antispyware program of Microsoft but with beta 2 dubbed
"defender" it appears they made changes to how it updates the spyware def
files and the installer needs updated. If you can't get to the site by using
the update feature within XP/2000 use this link
-http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp - and hopefully you
will get what you need.

Hello, I have the latest Windows Installer, 3.1, and my definition update
does not update. I click the button and it blinks and that's about it. I've
tried some of the other user's recommendations to no avail. It still says 23
days of no updates. I realize this is a beta product, but you would think
someone from Microsoft would take a peek at the newsgroup once in a while to
see what's happening. As for me, I uninstalled Beta 2 and will continue to
use Spybot until some of the busgs are corrected.

I received a message that Defender was up to date, so perhaps there have been
no new updates in the last 23 days. (I also got that message after installing
the Defender software over the old MS Antispyware program.) I'm pretty sure
I have the latest installer software.

Hi again! I got curious and downloaded and installed Beta 2 again. I stumbled
across Knowledge Base ID: 915105. After closing Defender I followed the
resolution instructions and lo and behold, it updated and scanned!
