While they have a purpose if (and pretty much only if) the end result is going
to be printing out from an unknown machine, I've always despised pdf files. I
needed an older computer a few months ago, so I cobbled together the parts with
a 350 mb HDD. Installing acrobat (or reader, or whatever they are calling it
now) sucked 50 mb off of the HDD, and the Adobe webpage didn't make the older
versions readily apparant. I had to dig through backups to find an older copy
that only stole 15 mb of HDD space, but that's still a lot of bloat.

Not too bad for me:

1: I can take my time read them offline, or even dump them to my
laptop to read at my leisure.

2: I can print out one or more pages, straight from the application.
Most other documents take some finessing to be printable.

Your going to be really frustrated as the PDF format is going to be used for all secure and government forms and such.... slated to
be at a 80% saturation AFA TXT type documents/catalogs on the web.. TECH TV the other night
