To anyone who is fairly new to computers, DO NOT do this with your home
computer! Safe mode may very well bail your butt out of trouble if need be.
This is intended for public access pc's or kiosk's.

From the article.
"It's not the Registry that needs to be modified, but rather the ntldr
file".

To those again who may be new at this, the ntldr file is required to boot
your computer.
Don't screw around with it!

To: (e-mail address removed) If you do this you might want to see if someone can
still enter safe mode via msconfig and a reboot, unless you have also
disabled the run command.

How to disable the run command.

From kellys-korner.com

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er

Value Name: NoRun
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Why in the world would anyone want to disable Safe Mode? It's hard to
imagine a more foolish action.

DO NOT DISABLE SAFE MODE AND IGNORE THIS IDIOT'S POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Safe
Mode will be a major resource to you no matter what. You can recover your
password for your administrator account if you lose it using safe mode, you
can remove much more malware in safe mode then in normal, and you can remove
some stubborn programs in safe mode that you can't remove in normal mode.

Why would you want to disable Safe Mode?
Safe Mode is a valuable resource and losing it can be dangerous.
Before disabling access to Safe Mode, explore other options for solutions.
If there are better options, they are probably better..

don't forget to backup ntldr and create a boot disk set incase you trash the
file... but I agree with the others DON'T MESS WITH IT

My guess is that users probably boot into Safe Mode with networking to
bypass startup programs that can include software firewalls, antivirus
programs, antispyware programs, Net Nanny programs, etc. Bypassing software
firewalls such as Zone Alarm, etc would probably be a main reason for users
who want to use unauthorized software to access the internet. Of course that
is very dangerous and I agree that there may be better options such as
Software Restriction Policies for the operating systems that support it to
prevent users from using unauthorized software and perimeter firewalls that
manage outbound access also though tunneling through http is difficult to
manage. Thankfully the Windows Firewall, at least SP2, is still enabled in
Safe Mode with networking. --- Steve
