Footnotes

Hi,

I'm creating a list of questions (please see list example below) and I added
footnotes to each question with a brief explanation. So, now, I have this
huge section of footnotes at the bottom of the pages - is there a way to
expand or collapse the footnotes??? Or does anyone know another way to add
descriptions - like maybe a pop-up ballon by scrolling over the document?
Help me pleaseeee...

(How brief is "brief"?) It might look nicer if each explanation were
directly under the question, in smaller type. For other suggestions,
you'd have to say what format the user will be seeing -- on paper, on
screen, on a web page, etc.

The user will see it on their computer. It's a part of a requirements doc
they have to fill out. Ideally, it'd be great if they scrolled over the
question and a mini balloon popped up or as said before expand or collapse
the footnotes (if possble).

did you test Word's Comment feature?

Other than that: Jay Freedman came up with an alternative approach which
I've quoted in this forum before:
