Footnote in Excel

Is there anyway of inserting a footnote or something similar in Excel?

I currently have a few columns each containing amounts of time, ie 0:30,
8:30 etc.... The cells are formatted as time. I added an asterix next to one
of these figures and the cell was no longer formatted as a time.

Is there anyway I can therefore add a footnote next to some info in a cell
without deformatting it, so that I can make a note regarding that figure at
the bottom of a table?

the only thing something similar to a footnote is inserting a comment.
Select the cell and goto 'Insert - Comment'. You may also have a look
