I have a report which has six columns. I need to add a page footer to
record date of issue and page number.

When I do that I get one column at the extreme left of the page and
another at the extreme right. Columns also disppear. The number of
pages in the report does not increase.

What can I do?

I don't see how you could get the number of pages to stay
the same. Best I can suggest is to make sure the setting of
the Same as Detail option is ununchecked and manually set
the column width.

Make the report width the full width of the page, less the width of
the margins.
Then click on File + PageSetup + Columns
Uncheck the 'Same as Detail' check box and manually enter the column
width.

The page header and footer will extend the full width of the page.
