When creating a text with a size larger than 60 and a non-TrueType font the
text gets all messed up. All characters are pushed over each over.

What kind of font is it?

What version of PPT do you use?

Steve,

It is Powerpoint 2007 and it is happening with OTF and Postscript fonts.
TrueType fonts are OK.

Echo,

Thank you for the link, but none of the tips applies to our case.

I believe this is a bug in PowerPoint 2007. I can reproduce the problem on
all our systems.

TrueType fonts are OK.

Aside: OTF can contain either TrueType or PostScript font information. Most of the
fonts that ship with Windows XP are OTF (but TrueType inside).

But I can duplicate the problem here (Adobe's Barmeno in this case; definitely a PS
font). I can manually enter sizes up to 65 but at 66 it goes all wrong. I'll
report this.

By the way, it happens when a printer driver supplied with Windows is installed. I
don't think it's a printer driver issue.

As a workaround, you may have to use TT fonts. Not good news, I realize ...

Steve,

The fonts our corporate identidy is based on are OTF only. We also need OTF
to be compatible with our MACs. So we really have to use these fonts.

Can I as an end user report a bug without having to open a support case and
pay for it? I know I can call Microsoft and report the problem, but then I
never get any status updates and don;t know whether the issue has been fixed
or not.

Thanks,
Dieter

Hi Dieter,

Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I can confirm this to happen. But it
seems, that only Adobe fonts are concerned. Maybe you should also contact
Adobe (or the designer of your font, if it was created for your company).

Axel Becker blogged about it some days ago in his PowerPoint-TV blog:
http://www.ppt-tv.de/index.php/2007/08/27/powerpoint-2007-probleme-mit-grosen-schriften/
(as your name sounds German, I assume you might be able to read German).

Best regards,
Ute

I understand. This is a real nuisance, I'm sure.

But again, OTF fonts can contain either TT or PS/Type1 font information.
There may be font creation programs that can convert your fonts from PS to TT format and
include that in the OTF "wrapper" instead. That should solve the problem. Both Macs and
PCs can use OTF/TT fonts.

I don't know of any way you can do this, I'm afraid. But as I say, I've already reported
the problem (and another that I discovered while testing).

No, I've also just checked with a Bitstream font and probably have fonts from some other
vendors around.

It's Type1 (PostScript) fonts that are the problem.
