Is there anyway to properly deploy font packages on a netowrk?

i can't seem to find anything in GPO... just wondering.. thanks!

i guess a reg entry will work just fine... but the files would need to be
copied up to each computer's font's folder... so that's my issue thus far.

Hi,

Have you thought about a good old batch file? I use them all the time and
then just setup as a startup script. When my machines restart after WSUS (or
you can schedule using shutdown.exe) the files get copied over.

Cheers,

Lara

i can get them to copy, but i do not know how to install fonts on a system
using a bat file!

any guidence?

I could be wrong, but aren't they installed when you put them in the Fonts
folder? (Provided they're TTF files?)

Hi,

Fonts are automatically installed when they are copied into the Font folder.
I do this type of install all the time remotely with Type 1 and TTF fonts.
However, with Type 1 fonts, with Adobe Products only, the Adobe app has to be
opened by an admin or someone with write access to the "font" Adobe file to
automatically "reload" the Fonts for Adobe to read. With Apps like Word, they
automatically read any fonts in the font folder regardless of how they got
there.

Lara

Thanks!

I actually have my users as local admin and restrict privlidges via GP... so
they have rights to 'reload' the fonts... however, is there a font discovery
for the adobe reader(specifically) ? or is the font simply detected and
loaded?

Thanks! We are heavy Adobe users... This would be an issue that could arise
:)

Also, after further investigation, the fonts are copied there and installed
automatically... However a registry key is made to the corresponding fonts
at this location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]

:)

Hi,

Don't forget to copy the .pfb file as well because Type 1 needs both. Adobe
will automatically scan the Font directory and load the fonts there, if the
users have write access. My users have no write access so I have to do it.

Cheers,

Lara
