Fonts printing too lightly

Since I moved from WP 6.1 DOS to Windows word processors,
I've been having a problem with my Courier and Times New
Roman fonts printing too lightly. The Courier is
practically unusable. I'd just choose other fonts except
that I sometimes have to match my customers' work. Does
anyone know of a place I can download different versions
of these two font sets to see if I can find one that works
better?

That's unlikely to be the source of your problem. All apps on a PC share the
same set of font files: the Courier or Times that WP is using is the same
Courier or Times available to Word. If the fonts are appearing differently
in WP vs. Word, the problem is likely to be with the respective app's
interaction with your printer driver (eg - perhaps - one app is downloading
font info to the printer while the other is asking to substitute the
printer's built-in fonts).

I did some tests, and the Courier, New Courier, and Times
New Roman print the same in both Word and WP (too light,
but a little better). The huge problem comes in calling
up a document that was created in WP 6.1 DOS (I am in the
process of moving over from this program to Word 2002 and
have LOTS of documents). When I choose the same font
(Courier from my HP4 printer), they print way too light.
If I choose New Courier, it's just unusable. So do you
think that if I buy/download a different Courier font, I
will still have the same problem?

Yes, I think you won't solve the problem by using different font files. (and
god knows how you'd go about BUYING a copy of courier!). I've never seen a
problem like this that didn't turn out to be related to the printer itself
or to the printer driver. Can you get ANYTHING to print properly? Are you
out of toner?

To localise your problem --

1. Borrow a different printer from someone, and try that on your computer.
2. Send a couple of files to someone else and get them to try printing them.
