In Word for XP, what has happened is that the non truetype fonts in the
fonts folder are not appearing in Word, but the
truetype ones are and I've no idea how to get the non-tt ones in there?

Any ideas? Thanks.

Check to ensure "Show only TrueType" is not selected in the properties of
the Fonts folder.

For instance, in Windows XP:

1. Go to Control Panel and open the Fonts folder
2. Click Tools | Folder Options...
3. Click the TrueType Fonts tab.
4. Uncheck the box for "Show only TrueType fonts in the programs on my
computer"

Thanks. Yes this makes sense.

Bizarely, some of my fonts are 23MB, 15 MB and 10MB in size whereas the rest
seem to go up to about 300KB. Do you think these ones are corrupted? They
are Arial Unicode MS, Batang, and SimSun.

These are the correct sizes. They are large because they have a lot of
characters included.

Batang is probably not useful to you unless you need extensive support
for Korean. SimSun is probably not useful to you unless you need
extensive support for Japanese.

Arial Unicode is sometimes handy to have; it allegedly has EVERY
character from one of the earlier versions of the Unicode standard. A
few of these characters are occasionally useful. Don't use it all the
time; the characters are not as well "hinted" as regular Arial, so
they won't look as good on screen.
