Some (non FP site) have gorgeous fonts and fancy letters that I believe are
not installed on my machine, yet they show up fine.

With my FP2000 site, if the user doesn't have the font on their machine, an
automatic substitution occurs. I understand a link to the fonts can be made
available, but doubt many people are interested in D/L a font just to see
the (limited) aesthetics of a site.

A second option seems to be convert test to a graphic and increase the load
time.

There was a program available that did not work very well, but I forgot
it's name.

Are there any better options these days?

I would like to use a somewhat classy font (Bernhard Fashion BT) but it
sure looks goofy when substituted.

Do I have to use a different program, other than FP?

All suggestions are welcome. TIA

the program you use to make your webs will have no effect on what the end
user has on their machine to display (fonts).
if you really want to have a fancy font and be sure it's seen you just have
to make a graphic of it. If you save the graphics properly they won't kill
your load time.

btw I use PI8 from www.ulead.com and like it.

Whether you use FP or another web authoring tool makes no difference. If
the visitor doesn't have the fonts installed on their machine, they won't
show up. Some sites use graphics as the fonts, some sites may use the Weft
program from Microsoft, which is very quirky and not supported in all
browsers, and requires the visitor to install the fonts on their computer
when visiting the site.

There is also a tool called WEFT to embed fonts in a web page, but it's not
the best solution (http://www.microsoft.com/typography) as it is limited to
IE only and can greatly add to the download of a page. If you need
non-standard fonts, put the text in a graphic.

Hope this helps,

You may want to use Paint Shop Pro www.jasc.com

...plus, it requires the visitor to download the fonts to their computer, and
it's doubtful many will do that.
