Fontpage 2003, on laptop unable to import jpegs

I cannot insert any jpges when using photo gallery templete...or any
templete...
NOT an allowed format.

This problem exists only on my laptop.
On my desk system, no problem.
Same program disk on both boxes
On laptop, tried "repair" as well "uninstall and reinstall"...all fail

What quirk may cause this problem?
