Font installation

I'm having trouble installing a font I downloaded. I unzipped the file and
can open it under the control panel. I have it saved under My Documents.
The problem is once I click on the button to install the font, there is a
message that says the file is already in use. I tried closing all browser
windows, but that did not help.
 
My Documents is the wrong place to install a font so that could be one
problem. Have you tried using the font?
 
The font won't show up in Word under fonts if that's what you mean. I will
try to download another font. Where should I install it if not from My
Documents? Thanks.

I'm downloading the font from a website and I click on save. Maybe I should
save it under a specific folder, but I don't see how that would change
anything.
 
Control Panel, Font Folder, File, Install New Font, browse to the font file. Or
simply drag and drop the font file on the Font Folder.
 
Fonts go in your fonts directory and that's why Word can't find it.

Right-click on the name of the font file (the unzipped version) and
choose Install.

Depending on your operating system, it will either be available in
Word immediately, or it will be available the next time you open Word.
