font colors

I have struggled with XP Home for a while now, but this
one problems has me snowed........and it just started this.
I cannot change the font colors in my email program nor in
MS Word/Works (these are the only ones i have tried).
Can anyone help??

In word go to the top off page click on Format/font/font
color, its the same when using Outlook
