For some reason, the font changed in my XP message
windows and has also affected many of my programs such as
Quickbooks Pro and Minicad which I am assuming use the
basic default font in their programs.
It appears that the standard font used by XP Professional
has been messed up and the font that has replaced it is
very square and dark.
ANY help will be appreciated.

Why not change the font to the one you want. All of these sorts of settings can be gotten at from your desktop. Right click on it and then click properties and then the appearance tab. Now click the advanced button down the lower right. You will see several windows overlapping each other and down the bottom a line with the title Item: and to the right of that line a drop down list arrow that if you click you will see all sorts of things you can change. For example click the arrow and then click "Active Title Bar" and suddenly all the options in this area become available to you. You can now change the Font: just below the Item: line by clicking it's drop down list and choosing the style you want. You can change color1 and color2 which are the colours of the bar and you can change the font size and colour as well. Heck you could even click the B to make it bold or the slanted I to make it slant. Up above you will see a window "Message Box" with the words "Message Text" below it. Click on Message Text and you will now see that it is in the Item: line. Now you can change it's style and size and colour and so on. You should really go ahead and click your way around XP. It's the only way you can learn. Follow the patern I gave you. Right click and then click properties to find out about everything from the present page to folders and changing their appearance and so on. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.
I had already done all of that and it still comes out
weird in the message text. It doesn't seem to want to
change.
Any other ideas will be appreciated.

This is happening to me too. It almost seems as if an important system font has been corrupt or gone missing, and now many programs are displaying an unattractive bold-face font. This shows up on "preferences" screens, and I've also noticed it on my CuteFTP program. It's also the font that shows up during any program installation

Is there any way to figure out which font needs to be repaired or replaced on my system? I know it's not Tahoma because the programs which use that font still look fine.

Did anyone come up with an answer for this? It has
affected my computer, too.I tried all of the appearance
settings; I tried a system restore; I tired messing with
the fonts. No matter how I try and affect it, it doesn't
work. THe fonts won't change.
