font and/or format problems

my word document went crazy. when trying to change the font (select all) it changed to some wierd, unreadable gibberish. I cannot change it back to a normal font. it is as if itchanged the program, however, it is still a word document. this is a 7 page research paper and i need help. it also prints in gibberish.
 
Jane - take this immediately to one of the microsoft.public.word
newsgroups for the best expert help. Best of luck.

You might also check carefully to see if there's a recovery or backup
version of that file somewhere. Same name, different extension.

you should ask in an Office/word newsgroup ... however

try
with your document open
press CTRL A to select all of the text
goto menu
Format
Font
select Arial from the list

click the default button select yes to the "do you want to change ...."
click OK once or twice to return to the document.

it should be ok now
 
There is always a repair option in a doc file but better yet Start | Run | winword /a | OK. Now open your doc file.
