folders wont open in the same window

hi
i changed the icon for file folders in folder options but changed it back.
however, now my folders wont open in the same window but open in new
windows.
i've tried clicking open in new window radio button and appy to all folders
but to no avail.
i've had this prob in the past but had to reformat to sort it.
any ideas?

You have in Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/the General tab/the Browse
folders box/ and have "Open each folder in it's own window" checked but you
want "Open each folder in the same window" checked and then you hit Apply,
then OK. Then go to the View tab/click the Apply to All Folders button,
Apply and OK. [it is late and I can;t remember if this second part is
needed]
I know the poster says they have "open in new window" checked and don't
understand why they "open in a new window", but I am willing to look foolish
to try to help someone anyway, on the slim chance they really need the help.
