Folders no longer open

XP committed suicide, as all my other versions of Windows OSs have in the past. I was changing a few icons in Tools->Folder options->File types when I noticed that I could no longer open my folders. Every time I double clicked them, they brought up a search window. When I re-checked the File type for 'folder', XP had added the command 'search' to the actions list. There isn't any way I could have possibly done this without knowing it. This type of thing requires opening a sub-window and typing in the new action name, then choosing the executable or DLL that will execute the action. XP did this all by itself and I haven't got a clue how or why. Since 'folder and 'file folder' have no extensions, I cannot delete them, nor can I modify the already existing actions. I tried adding an 'open' action, but I don't know what executable or library actually performs the open function for folders. Also, because I don't know the controlling DLL of executable, I can't re-register the objects. What am I to do now, besides reinstalling Windows?

Visit Doug's site, linked below. Click on XP-FIXES. In the righthand
