Folders Inexplicably Unaccessible

When I try to access certain files or folders within My
Documents, Explorer inexplicably closes - no error
message. When I try to access the same folder from the
Open File dialog within a program, Explorer shuts that
program down, again with no error message.

I've run scandisk thinking perhaps there was a bad sector
but results were clean. I can sometimes avoid the problem
by copying the parent folder to the desktop and
extracting the needed files, but this is a huge pain.

Any ideas what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks, Andre

Too much running at the same time? You may have too many
programs running, or backgroung programs. Try to
streamline your task manager by using msconfig. Just tick
the error message you will get when you reboot.
