Folders Icon Display

Until recently the settings for the way the contents of my folders displayed
(ie: in ICON, DETAILS or THUMBNAIL style, etc) was remembered by windows and
on re-opening any particular folder its contents were displayed the same way
as they last time the folder was used.
I now am unable to retain the settings for ICON style although other styles
seem to be remembered. I have been through 'customise folders' but I still
cannot get any folders where I want the contents to be displayed in ICON to
retain their settings.
Anybody got any ideas?

Kelly's site, below. Click on "F" and scroll down to the Folders section.
 
Thanks a lot - the tips in the Kelly's site about folders worked. I needed
to increase my settings for folders display from 400 to 1000.
