After installing microsofts latest and greatest
virus..windows XP, I am having 2 problems, one seems
significant, the other just annoying and a great waste of
my time.
1) Since I have loaded winXP, everytime I start up my
computer, it finds new hardware, my printer. My printer
was loaded with XP, whenever I hit load the dirver, it
says that the one installed is the best option and
refuses to load any new driver. I have completley
uninstalled teh printer and have reloaded it again, 6
times, all with the same result, 'new hardware found'
everytime I start up.
2) One of the most annoying features of the windows XP
virus, is the folder view called 'filmstrip'I have set
the folder setting to always remember the view, I set it
to thumbnails, yet everytime I go back to the folder it
reverts to the filmstrip view. Can this annoying
timewasting piece of crap view be removed or disable in
some way so I don't ahve to spend time over and over and
over again resetting the view setting?

1. This workaround is for an HP Printer, use accordingly:

1. When the Found New Hardware Wizard starts at startup of the computer,
click <next>.

2. When it asks you for the HP disk, (the next thing that will require a
response from you probably), click <ok>. However, do NOT insert the disk
into your CD-ROM drive.

3. On the next screen that comes up, there will be a button that is already
highlighted telling the wizard where to find the printer driver (which is
what it is looking for). This button will be pointing it at "other media,
CD-ROM,etc.

The trick is to DESELECT this button. At that point, the button for your C:
drive will become active and you can select the C: drive. It will also
probably be prompting you with the location for the already installed HP
printer driver that is somewhere on your C: drive. (If not, you need to
click browse and locate the driver).

4. After you have deselected the CDROM and selected the C: drive, click
<ok> (or <next>) The Wizard then makes a second copy of your printer driver
(and, by the way, creates a second "installed printer" in your Control
Panel/Printers). And then, the wizard finally completes and tells you that
you have successfully installed the new hardware.

5. On subsequent startup, the Wizard should then NOT run.

2. Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders.
