Is there some sort of configuration setting in Windows
that I can initially set so that all my folders open
in "Details" View? The default "Large Icons" is basically
useless for my work. Thank you!
 
Yes Open up Windows Explorer, select the view required. In your case details
view then click on;
Tools Menu, Folder Options, View Tab, click on Apply to all folders and
click yes
