Folder Sharing Across Networks

I'm running Vista. I have my drive partitioned into five chunks. The data
partition is FAT32 (install is of course on NTFS). I want to create a
folder on my data partition and I want that to be accessible to those on my
home network. From my W2K machine, I can see the folder but it is only read
only. I can take things out of the folder (on the Vista computer) but I
can't put anything into the folder.

I'm pretty sure I set the sharing up to allow read / write capabilities as
long as the user has a password and logon to the Vista computer. But it's
not working that way. Not sure if it is a firewall issue or not. I've only
been running Vista since this morning so I'm not even close to getting use
to the changes.

What's the trick to making this happen.

Maybe that was a dumb question. I did not see the Permission Box... which
is what I was looking for.
It seems to be working now.

Have you enabled file sharing in on the Win 2K box? Also have you made
certain to take ownership of files and folders that you want to move to some
other folder? And have you tried the Vista USMT which might help you get
this file transferring done? I believe that in Win 2K you would be using
the USMT 2.62.

This should apply to the two and soon 3 builds later than Beta 2, and you
did not state what build of Vista you have.

I'm not sure if you can configure file sharing for Win 2K same as in Win XP
but for XP:

"Microsoft® Windows® User State Migration Tool (USMT) version 2.6.2 migrates
user files and settings during deployments of Windows 2000 or Microsoft
Windows XP. USMT 2.6.2 provides enterprise migration capabilities such as
unattended migration, multi-user profile support and compression. USMT 2.6.2
is intended for administrators who are performing automated deployments.

This toolkit includes two command-line tools named Scanstate and Loadstate.
Scanstate captures an intermediate store with the user files and settings
from the source computer. Loadstate restores these files and settings to the
destination computer."

I think you also could have used the WIM tool and XImage for this
originally.
