Folder Settings LOST, IE/Explorer Status Bar LOST - BUG

From all the posts describing the same problem--all with NO answer, it is painfully obvious that there is an extremely annoying BUG in WinXP and/or IE 6.0

Just like many others, I keep losing my status bar in Explorer and IE 6.

And also, just like many others, I keep getting my folder "view" settings (e.g., detail/thumbnail, columns, etc.) corrupted (in other words, I open a folder and have the WRONG view settings--often view settings I have never set anywhere)

It is VERY frustrating to see people hashing the same OLD tips around over and over again...yet MS doesn't (as far as I know) recognize that THEY have a very annoying BUG

MS (and most tips) say "Apply settings to all folders".

After getting the wrong view settings hundreds of times, I did that

SURPRISE! It did reset everything. Sort of

I managed to LOSE EVERY ONE of my customized views (for photos, albums, etc.)--so there goes several hours as I now have to fix all my folder views (spread over the next several weeks everytime I open a new folder)

BUT...when I reopened the folder I just adjusted and said to use base everything else on...its attributes were NOT like I saved them

Somebody at MS needs to take a look (and correct) this annoyance. Soon. I don't want to have to wait until the next version in 2006 to hear "Wow! The new OS is great...it now remembers your folder view settings!".

Has ANYBODY heard of MS working to correct this programming error in their code?

1. Manual Edit

Go to Windows Explorer/View/Status Bar. Then go to Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to all folders. Works for IE as well.

Automated Edit

Enable Show Status Bar (Line 67)

2. Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Thanks, but...

1) What about the not-so-minor problem that occurs when you "apply to all folders" (i.e., you lose customization on hundreds to thousands of folders)

2) I can open a folder, set the view, close the folder, open it up immediately--and the settings are different. It is supposed to wipe out the oldest entries...and I'm having problems with folder a LOT less than 400 deep. I'm even seeing weird behavior and I just got done "applying to all folders"

3) Does anyone know what "applying to all folders" does to the WinXP's "view templates" (it is my understanding WinXP tries to set the view for a new folder to some special format of its choosing)

4) Can I create/edit/delete these view "templates"

Thanks

....Rob

That is set in Cabinet State (remember each folder's view settings)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState

I don't know, but I just finished the spending the evening doing the recommended edits to the registry
and I have exactly the same failure. I'm at SP1, with all new updates installed, and this is n't working and it really is frustrating. I'm so sick of looking at icons, when I need to see details.
