Folder Security: removing MODIFY

Hi, will removing the MODIFY security, of a folder, affect the access of an
application (that reads and writes to folder) to a specific user or group? Or
is will only restrict access to the folder directly by the user or group?

Yes, it will affect any actions that the application wants to take, if that
application is run by the user.
