Folder redirection

Hi all. Right now I am evaluating what would be the best way for our
company to provide a type of automated client backup setup for our
workstations. I am considering folder redirection/offline files.
Someone told me that folder redirection requires roaming profiles. Is
this true? I was hoping it would be something we could implement
through global policy instead of having to enable roaming profiles. We
have a Windows 2000 domain with 2000 AD and w2ksp4 and xpsp1a and sp2
clients. Also, is there anything else I need to watch out for? Any
other gotchas?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Folder Redirection does NOT require roaming profiles. It can be done via a
group policy.

If you redirect the users folders to a centralized server, be aware that if
the server is offline they will not be able to get to their files. You can
counteract this by also leveraging Offline Files and Folders on the
workstations. In this way a cached copy of files can be stored on the local
workstation. When the server comes on line the cache is synchronized with
the server.

Thanks Paul for your response. Is there any good sources of info you
could share which describe folder redirection/offline files and how to
set it up? Thanks again. :)
