Ron

I've read all sorts of help files on this and it doesn't
really give set by step. And doing it doesn't show what
helps says I should see.

I can't use the tiny little folders on C: for "My
pictures" and "my video" I installed drives for each of
these. 120 gig for "my pictures" and another for "My
video" I have been using them fine, but I'm annoyed that
when I click "my pictures" or "My video" I get their
little setup folders that aren't used by me. (I find them
worthless) but these links are all over my win XP.

How can I change the path to these two special folders so
that they ACUTALLY point to the areas where my pictures
and my videos are?

thanks (Dunno if I'll find this msg base again) please!!!
reply via email above if you can (yes it's real email)

I think I found it, never mind. I just skipped MS help
(which is usually worthless) and copied the folders from
their original XP path to where I wanted them and when I
click the links they work. (though I would rather they
opened the root drive rather than the folder) I can live
with it.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShell Folders
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Change both.

Ah that helped too, I had already found a way to do it. I
went into my users documents file, found the folders and
moved them to where I wanted them. I worked. Upon trying
your method, I see my new locations are already listed in
the registry =) so it must have worked.

Now another question, in my start menu, I see "my
pictures" there and I also want "my videos" there, this
was so easy in old windows versions, but in this XP PRO
setup, I can't get control of this area. How can I edit
this area? Before it was right click and open and just
customize the folder... this the case now.

You said in your post you wanted it set to the root of the drive. Dragging (the UI way of changing it) you can't do it cos you can't drag a folder with the destination as root. It has to be a sub folder of root. So if you want change it to the root, do so here. Copy the hidden desktop.ini in as well.

I didn't quite understand you second question. What exactly do you want to do and how did you do it on 98.
