Hi
Can anyone explain the options boxes when you right click a folder on the
remote pane. I need to know so that I don't leave the folder wide open for
misuse
Thanks
Paul M

The folder permissions should be set by the web host when the site is created to protect content,
you should normally never have to change these. And since your are concern about not depending on
the FP extensions, without the extensions you will not have access to these folder properties.

A web server automatically marks folders of website as read only, so what type of misuse are you
concerned with?

Unless you have admin rights on the server, you web host must set the permissions under Windows for
folders, etc.

You really should store the database outside of the web root, even if using FP, but this requires
your web host to give you access to a folder above your web root via FTP access.

No, but the FP extensions allow you to have access to the Window OS folder properties (where allowed
by the web host), however you can not set permissions to protect folder content unless you have
admin rights on the server and you are access the server directly or via remote access, not via FP.

Thanks
So you are saying that if I didn't have the extensions somoeone at
fasthosts would have to access the windows server to change permissions but
because because I do I can do it myself?
Paul M

No. The FP extensions will only manage the specific access permissions on the fpdb and _private
folder, any other folder that need specific permissions, your web host would have to set for you, it
they offer this service, not all web host do. The FP extensions also control the general access
permissions for your web site.

If you did not have the FP extensions, then you would not be able to see the limited folder
properties that you currently see when you right click, however your web host can also disable the
permissions for your account that allow you to change them.
