Having a minor issue with my folders. Everytime I open a folder a window
opens displaying a search open instead of the contents of the folder. Also,
when I open another folder within a folder the same thing happens instead of
it opening within the same window with the folder contents. I've checked the
folder settings and it is set to have the folder open in the same window
under "Browse Folders". Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Visit Doug's site, linked below. Click on XP-Fixes. Look at the
righthand column for your fix.

Issue: Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder

This problem occurs when you alter the "Drive" / "File Folders" entries via
File Types dialog, to add a "Command Prompt here" or "Print Directory"
feature for folders. (example)

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321186

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix this problem:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
(Courtesy of David Candy)

To fix this manually via registry:

If this problem is seen for Drives:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Set (default) to "none" (without ")

If this problem is seen for folders:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
Set (default) to "none" (without ")

I am having the same problem and do not seem to be terribly swift today.

I have been to Doug's site http://dougknox.com and it is
not clear to me what I am trying to do. Please extend an extra effort
and give me further directions

For the record: When I click on a file in my computer the search
function opens.

IF: I first select View >> explorer bar >>> folders......then two panes
open

and selecting a folder/file in the left pane displays the file/folder in the
right pane.

Before I inadvertently changed something.....clicking on a file/folder would
open
in the same window.

Sorry if I have been long winded....But I think this give the flavor of the
problem

Thanks
