I am having a problem with my Canon Software when trying
to download pics. I get an error that the folder may be
read-only. When I try and remove the read-only box in
the "properties, general" tab and hit apply or ok the
folder is "read-only again.

My computer is Windows XP (home), the drive that I am
having problems with is my second drive and came from a
Windows XP Professional machine.

Can anyone help?

You need to use the security tab in safe mode to change permissions. I
would recommend you go to the root of your second drive and take
ownership for the Administrators group and propagate that down the tree.
Then check and see what permissions are granted on that second drive and
how many unknown SIDs you find. Unknown SIDs are harmless so long as
more general group permissions are present (they may not be).
