Folder options

Can someone point me to Microsoft's fix for the folder option
inadequacy. I can't set all folders to list or details using "Like
Current folder" under tools. I've tried about 4 registry "fixes"
suggested by others but they don't work. I'm not interested in a "fix."
I'm interested in where microsoft discusses the matter. I tried a number
of microsoft sites with no success. Its Professional xp

This doesn't work. It also doesn't speak to the problem mentioned in
most discussions: XP only looks at 400 folders when the Folder Options
is set. If you have more than 400 folders XP can't handle it.

The fixes I've seen are registry fixes to reset the 400 limit. I thought
microsoft might have a discussion of that.
