Every time I or either of the two other users of this PC log on, the
C:\Program Files\Dell folder (containing ArtEuro, Media and Search Portal
folders) presents itself on the desktop, and has to be closed manually every
time. This has been heppening for months now, and we are really fed up with
it. How can I stop this from happening?

Hi mumlynana,

There is probably a startup entry that is missing quotation marks which
is causing the folder to open when you start your computer. If you
could post a copy of the Startup log then we may be able to track down
the startup entry that is causing the problem.

How to generate a startup log using MSINFO32?

HERE IS A COPY OF THE STARTUP LOG AS SUGGESTED. Hope you can find the
problem.......

Two entries aren't in quotes. For some reason the space in a folder
name is occasionally not accepted as proper syntax. So change these two:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
DMXLauncher c:\program files\dell\media experience\dmxlauncher.exe

and

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
MemoryCardManager c:\program files\dell photo aio printer
964\memcard.exe

Browse to those locations in regedit, and modify the data to read:

"c:\program files\dell\media experience\dmxlauncher.exe"

and

"c:\program files\dell photo aio printer 964\memcard.exe"

The only change was the quotes at the beginning and end.

I have found 4 possible entries.

Please download a registration file from my website to fix these
entries. Download http://www.lprf.ca/files/temp/fix.fldr.open.reg to
your desktop. Double-click the file to import the registration entries.

Restart your computer and see if the folders open on start-up.

NOTE: You can view the contents of the file by right-clicking to select
edit.

Good Luck.

William, you're a genius. Problem solved. Now...... do I just leave the
file on my desktop or what?

Hi mumlynana,

You can safely delete the file from your desktop. I am glad your
problem has now been resolved. ;)
