I have Windows XP Pro with SP1. I recently changed the
permissions on my documents folder for my logon ID.
With "Use simple file sharing" turned on I right clicked
on my userid folder under documents and settings and
selected properties > sharing > and checked make this
folder private.

This worked fine. But strangely the My Pictures and My
Music folders were given a new name of David's Pictures
and David's Music. I now have a mixture of folders some
beginning My... and two beginning David's ....

Can I revert the David's to My ... ? If I try and rename
them David comes straight back!

The desktop.ini file from David's Music contains:

[DeleteOnCopy]
Owner=David
Personalized=13
PersonalizedName=My Music
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12689
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
IconIndex=-237

If Kelly or Anando read this I owe them a bigger cake..
(ps I used Tweak UI in the end to set My Places menu bar.
Group Edit worked, but I couldn't work out how to make an
empty entry and Windows went and selected a folder at
random for me. Tweak UI had a none option in the pull
down menu so I was able to set it my fav four folders OK.
Many thanks)

Hi Anando

David's Music and David's Pictures are visible in Windows
Explorer when viewing My Documents Folder.

My Documents
-> David's Music
-> David's Pictures
-> My Archives
-> My Databases
-> My Library
-> My Maps
-> My Vidoes
-> My etc etc

I am puzzled as to my My Pictures and My Music changed to
David's Music and David's Pictures. I can not rename
them. The desktop.ini file even has a line
PersonalizedName=My Music (full .ini below) but XP
overides these names and calls them David's.... I would
much prefer all my folders began My ... to be consistent
and make it easier to find them!

Any ideas?

David,

The shortcut in My Computer which links to your My Documents should show
'David's Documents'. Where exactly is David's...being mentioned ?

David,

Never seen this happen before and i am puzzled as to why this should happen.
Try reverting your "My Documents" to 'non-private' again and see if the
symptoms vanish.

I was thinking about the same step. But, could it be a permissions issue?

Thanks Guys,

I have tried switching back to shared and the folders
remained called David's Pcitures and David's Music.

I switched back and forth several times and still the
folders remained named this way and I could not rename
them.

I had a look at the desktop.ini files and deleted the
three entries e.g. in David's Music desktop.ini I deleted:

Owner=David
Personalized=13
PersonalizedName=My Music

This did the trick, I can't say I understand what these
entries do, espcially Personalized=13. But once deleted
the names My Music & My Pictures came back.

Is there a MS document anywhere that explains the syntax
of commands in desktop.ini files?

Thanks

David

Don't understand it either, but I have done some more
playing with those settings in desktop.ini. If I add all
three back in to the desktop.ini in My Music
Owner=David
Personalized=13
PersonalizedName=My Music

then the folder is called David's Music. take away any
one of the three and its called My Music.

I am happy I have the folder names back, but I would like
to understand those desktop.ini commands !
