While trying to protect a folder, I was told I had to turn on System Tasks.
Now when I double-click on my computer, I get a display running down the
left-side of the screen divided into "System Tasks," "Other Places," and
"Details." I don't want this display and it's never been displayed before. How
do I turn it off?

Hold down CTRL and press the BREAK key on your keyboard (MS's ironic shortcut
for system properties). On the Advanced tab, click the top Settings button
(under performance section).

Then in the list box, uncheck "Use common tasks in folders".

Click OK, OK. And you're done.

From My Computer, use Tools-Folder Options and check "Use Windows
classic folders" instead of "Show common tasks in folders"

Open My Computer and click on Tools at the top of the window.
Note: You can also access this through Control Panel.
Select Folder Options from the menu
On the General page, select "Use Windows classic folder".
Click OK.

Good luck

Thanks very much. It would be nice if you could right-click on that display
and have a pop-up message tell you how to turn it off.....
