Folder Contents and number of items display

Win 2000 displayed the size and number of files in a
given directory when the folder was highlighted. XP Pro
does not do the same. Is this something that can be
changed or is this a design change.

This is by design and cannot be changed. Some third-party file
managers like the Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/) still
support this.

Not as convenient, but a right-click and then Properties will show you
that information.
 
It's an option in tools/folder options - but it only does it on the right
side of the screen, not the left.
