I have set up one folder to be in detail view, arranged
by name etc and applied this to all folders in folder
options.
In previous versions of Windows I have created various
folders on my desktop and copied them to the XP desktop.
These folders have only shortcuts in them and have been
setup with icon view, arrange icons by "align to grid".
Some have their own folder picture and icon and others
don't. The shortcuts are not arranged alphabetically. I
have folders setup this way on three different computers.
Without going into folder options or making any other
changes the folder contents on all three computers
radomly change back to list view, auto arranged by name.
This has been happening for a long time now. How can I
prevent this from occurring.

Each computer runs Windows XP Pro SP1 but the problem
existed before the service pack was installed.

A very annoying feature of XP is that it only remembers
the settings for 400 folders by default.

Go to Kelly's corner http://www.kellys-korner-
xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and download and run the registry
tweak (#2) to up this limit to 8000 folders. Reboot. You
will have to reset your preferred folder settings again
but they should stick from then on.

Thanks very much for the tip. I have done as you
suggested and run the registry tweak. This should now
save me a lot of time as I will no longer have to change
the folders options again.
