After I logon to Windows XP my dell folder opens automatically on my screen
and I have to manually close it. How do I prevent this from happening? This
just recently started, it never used to happen.

I followed your instructions but did not find either entry name (DellQuickSet
or DellSupport) listed and therefore I could not proceed with your
resolution. Do you have anything else I should try? Thank you!

I have version 3.3 which I assume is later than the 2.0.007311 version you
indicated was causing the problem. Should I still uninstall and reinstall?
Thanks!

Well, something is in your startup matrix pointing to that folder;
you're just not seeing it. Run the System Configuration Utility and look
again. Review the information from MVP Ramesh at the link I already gave
you for more information about managing startup also.

Start>Run>msconfig [enter]

This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab
and find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply
and OK out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you
do you'll get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick the box
that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop
processes. Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter]

Don't know what to tell you I had a version of Dell Support Center that was
slightly older that the 2.0.007311 version mentioned. That version was
recently updated on my computer. When it was installed then I started to
see the same folder open up. The problem was solved when I did what the
link indicated. I'm not sure how you can have version 3.3 of the Dell
Support Center. Are you sure that it is not just version 3.0 of Dell Support
vice Dell Support Center?

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,
type the name of the folder:

\Dell

into the search pane. Click "Find Next", and when located, delete the
"Run" entry that includes the folder. Press F3 to continue the search.
There will be many \Dell entries; you want the on that is in a Run entry
and is missing the file name after the path. If you have a question to
whether a particular entry is the one to remove, post it here first.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you
remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported
to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create
a restore point before editing the registry too.

When I click "about dell support" it says Dell support 3.3. How do I find my
version of the Dell support center? What is the difference between Dell
support and Dell support center?
Thanks, Joan

When I run msconfig I am seeing 3 dell items:
Startup Location Command
Item
dlbubmgr C:\Program Files\Dell... HKLM\software\microsoftwindows\current
ver...
memcard same as above same as above
DSAgnt same as above HKCU\software\microsoftwindows\current
ver...

I am not sure which I should uncheck...any suggestions?
Thanks, Joan

Shut down one or all three till you eventually find out which one is
opening the folder.

BTW, if you click an entry, then press Ctrl/+ you'll spread the columns
out and you can actually see the complete path and command line. If one
is missing an executable after "Dell\", that's the one!

Thanks for all your posts and help. I am very hesitant to edit my registry
since I am not experienced in it I am afraid I will really screw things up.
I think it is just easier for me to close the folder after startup but I do
appreciate you help.
