I have come across a odd problem. I cant
seem to unset my folders read only attribute. Even If i
set them to read only, i cant find them listed when I run
dir /a:dr command. What is going on? Has anyone come
across something similar?

thanks in advance

Hello AJ
I, too, have this problem, but only when I burn a DVD or Disc. If my
attributes are not "read only", they become read only when I burn a DVD or
Disc. I cannot do any direct writing to discs. Also, I had to do a complete
reload of my computer. Wow! I couldn't reload some of my backups from other
software, as they had becom "read only". I was saved by my backups to my
external hard drive. I've worked on this problem for a long time and haven't
been able to find out how to solve this problem. If you have any up-to-date
info since your entry, post it!
Thank you

The folder attribute is for the system and cannot be changed. You can
change the attribute of the files within a folder.

What you are experiencing on burning disks with regard to attributes is
normal. Direct writing to DVD or CD requires packet writing software and is
not supported natively in XP; no DVD burning is currently supported natively
in XP. Packet Writing software is usually supplied with the various CD/DVD
burning software suites. Nero, www.nero.com, includes their packet writing
InCD component and Roxio's Easy Media Creator, includes "Drag to Disk,"
their, packet writing component, www.roxio.com.
