Dunno.
)
Thanks for the explanation, Kelly. I remember the same question I've asked
you few months back. On that occasion, I tried the two methods and did not
work for me [weird]. The ones which I tried are:
1. Logged in as Administrator and loaded the Hive of my user profile. Then
deleted TrayNotify key. Restart
2. Logged in my user profile, deleted TrayNotify and crashed Explorer.
Neither did the trick. Then, I followed this: [a slight change only]
First, I crashed explorer, opened regedit and deleted TrayNotify. Then
re-created explorer.exe. This one worked. However, this behavior I noticed
only once or twice [once in my system] and not "many cases" as I wrongly
mentioned in previous post

Ramesh,
The difference is:
If you crash explorer manually in Task Manager, it doesn't restart
automatically. So the key needs to be deleted first, then crash explorer,
which my script does. Crashing Explorer after, forces Explorer to re-read
the values which it is now finding empty and restores the default (nothing).
The article stands correct.
) However, it fails to have the user restart
it, when done.
Kelly,
As you know, the article "Clear Past Items from the Notification Area" needs
modification. Killing the explorer.exe [as in your script] is required in
most cases I've seen, before deleting the registry key. [Reference:
Q283084]. You could recommend that point as well. KBase modification takes
more time than creating new one [via Community Solutions], i think.

I seem unable to customize my folder arrangement. In the Recycle Bin, the
default arrangement is by Name, but I would like to arrange by date deleted.
I change this setting and all is fine until I restart and the view is reset.
I have 'Remember each folder's settings' checked in Folder Options and I
even tried unchecking it and rechecking but nothing works. If anyone can
help me out here I would really appreciate it as I often delete something,
then decide I want it back.
