On my PC, I can update fields in Word 2007 with F9. On my new laptop, I have
to press the FN key +F9.
(F9 is for reducing the volume of my speakers)
Is it possible to customise this somehow to only press F9 for updating Word
fields?

We probably can't tell you; you'll have to consult the laptop owner's manual
(ha!) or ask at the website of the laptop maker. This is probably something
you can change through the BIOS (accessible at startup by pressing whatever
key is indicated). FWIW, the way your laptop behaves is just the reverse of
the default behavior of most laptops, I think.

You were right, Suzanne. I had a look on the HP website and it showed:

Enable = press F1 = F11 without FN,
Disable = Press FN + F1 - F12

When I looked in the BIOS, it was set on `Enabled` so it was the reverse of
the website's info.
I changed it to Disabled and now have precisely what I want, i.e. F9
(without FN) updates fields!

Thanks for your help.
