I want to access files on a floppy that was "Compressed" by Win98. I got a
message that it has to be "mounted" but I have just installed WinXP. How
can I get my floppy to work -it did work in Office 2000 which I have
re-installed but now it doesn't.
TIA,Bob

You cannot mount Windows 98 compressed floppies under Windows XP.
You will need to use a Windows 98 machine and retrieve your data before
transferring it to a Windows XP machine.

Hi Bob,

Decompress it in a Win98 system. WinXP can't read or use the drive
compression used in Win98.

When I now access files in Word (Office 2000) which I have also
re-installed- they come out all weird, Why? Surely XP doesn't make any
changes to Office 2000 /Word does it?

Please help us to help you. What do you mean by "all weird"?

-- Sorry Ken; e.g. the page is missing the header, i.e. a logo, the
first line is repeated but takes up two lines when it was written as one,
things like the date & phone No. are missing, then follows loads of
unintelligble hieroglyphics so it looks nothing like the one I wrote. This
applies to all of my Word documents I have tried to open. I hope this
helps.

Hi, Bob.

Sounds like it's time to move this thread from windowsxp.basic and to one of
the several Word newsgroups.

No, WinXP doesn't change Word 2000 - or any other application, in or outside
the Office suite.

Sorry about that. I realised the problem; I have Winword icon on desktop
which I was using and just thought that was maybe the problem -and it was-
Word was in Programs!
