My floppy drive has stopped functioning. All I get when I
put in a disk is a message asking me to "insert a disk
into Drive a:". I've tested the disks on other machines
and they are fine. I've put in a known operating floppy
drive with no good results. I've changed the cable to the
drive. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for
both the controller and the drive. Device manager tells me
everything is working fine. There are no resource
conflicts- the drive is using IRQ6.Any ideas?

Some floppy drives (against common protocal) require that
the cable be lugged in backwards -- that is, instead of
the red #1 wire being toward the power cable, it is on the
other side. So, try reversing the way the cable is plugged
in. If this is the problem, your floppy light will usually
turn on instantly when the computer is turned on and stay
on the whole time. Just an idea.
