Floppy runs once

Well I tried my home work and have the lions share of post read however I
didn't find an answer to my problem. I have a collection of floppies with a
varity of files on them. When I try to read them Win XP Pro will allow the
disk to read once and the selected file manipulated ie... copied, moved
etc... after that nothing else can be done with it. It cant be reformatted,
copied or even opened if you try to open it it will tell the disk is not
formatted do you want to format now if you select yes the appropriate screens
appear them the message unable to format. Anyone have great ideas???

The quality of floppy disk drives have declined significantly
over the years due to the emergence of other media such as the
CD-R(W), USB flash drives, etc. And the floppy diskettes have
never been a good medium for storing computer files. IMO, the
best floppy disk drives are still the TEAC's. I'd look for a
FDD-equipped machine that had been kept in meticulous operating
condition, download the contents from all of the floppy diskettes
to the hard drive, make copies and backups and then work on the
files from the hard drive.
 
We had a computer in the office that acted similar....except it would not
read the disk the first time! After trying to the disk was indeed unusable.
We replaced the drive and have not had a problem since.
